This week we’ve hung our 7th Annual Art for Food Exhibition in support of the Calgary Food Bank. This show is always very important to me because as a gallerist, I have the opportunity to hang a selection of new work by our artists and hang things next to each other that might not otherwise be seen in that way. It’s also important to me as a Mother.

43% of Calgary Food Bank clients are children. (That’s 6% higher than the national average – in Calgary!!) 38% of Calgary Food Bank clients have at least 1 person employed. These are working families who are having difficulty making ends meet. Can you imagine not being able to feed your child? I can’t imagine how helpless and desperate I would feel!

Supporting the Calgary Food Bank over the past 7 years has been an incredible experience. For every dollar we donate, the Food Bank can purchase $5 worth of food so I know the money will go far, thanks to their connections and support from food suppliers. It makes me feel good to know that a family who is having a hard time will have a decent meal tonight and be better able to deal with life’s complications the next day.

So if you’ve been considering the purchase of a piece of art, now is the time! For every $1,000 of art sold, we will purchase an emergency food hamper for a family of 4 which will supply them with the required food necessities for an entire week!
