Marjan Eggermont’s new exhibition opens this week at the Herringer Kiss Gallery. With this work, Marjan returns to 17th century Dutch Romanticism and the beautiful patinas on steel for which she is so well known.
Marjan is a very interesting person and would seem to be having identity issues. She immigrated to Canada from The Netherlands when she was 18 years old. She no longer feels “Dutch” but she doesn’t feel entirely Canadian either. In the art world, she is scientific and cerebral in her approach and as an Engineering instructor, her colleagues find her right brained and free spirited.
Recently, Marjan won the “Best of Biomimicry Award for Excellence in Biomimicry Education” so it would seem she has found success in both aspects of her professional life.
