American artist, Robert Indiana is finally having a major retrospective in New York City after 35 years of what the artist calls being “Blackballed” by the New York art scene. Robert Indiana was one of the first artists to use text as object. His most famous piece, “Love” was proliferated during the 1960’s without the artist’s authorization to the point that everyone knew the piece and nobody knew the artist behind it.
His retrospective of language and poetry works will open at the Whitney Museum of American Art in New York on September 26, 2013. Catch it if you can!
